I was in the center turn-lane turing into the lot where everyone meets up at on the weekends in my area. The traffic was backed up because of a light and 2 cars stopped short and waved me in to let me turn in front of them into the lot when the guy in the Mazdaspeed 6 made a split second decision to whip around one of the cars that had stopped and cruise up the right turn-lane to avoid the backed-up traffic and turn at the intersection 500ft or so down the road (he obviously didn't see me turning in), he hit me going 35-40MPH.
As you can see from the pics, it was a solid hit. My girlfriend was riding with me and fractured her pelvis in 2 places. The passenger door penetrated a good 8in or so into the passenger compartment. My GF saw the car coming at the last second and flinched to avoid the hit, but it was too late. I saw the headlights 2-3ft out of my peripheral vision, said a couple choice words, and braced for impact. My GF was med evac'ed to the hospital (back board, neck brace, the whole 10 yards). I walked away, alittle sore, but it could have been alot worse. GF is doing good, crutching around, luckily no surgery was needed for the fractures, they are simply going to let it heal on its own.
I figured the car was a total and was sweating bullets thinking about the $6-7K I've got into it and how my Insurance company is going to stiff me. They are going to fix it. I was actually able to turn the car around and drive it onto the flatbed trailer, no damage to any suspension components. I was cited for "Failure to Yield the Right of Way." I am going to contest the ticket, given the traffic circumstances. I'll play my chances of the cop or other guy not showing up and winning by default, a retired cop (friend of the family) told me to plea "Not Responsible," and said I have a chance given the circumstances. I'll keep everyone posted on what happends. Estimated to have the car back in 2-3 weeks.
