Oh man like always it seems my "little" winter plans again turn into big ones.
Kind of had a change of direction on things, Tim at punishment is finishing up the manifold this weekend and getting it sent out to Jet Hot. He's also buying my GT3561 from me. My good buddy Paul is hooking up with one the first Turbonetics GT-K 550's in the country available to the public. Going ball bearing baby!
Also I'm pulling out the trans tomorrow and probably taking it up to TRE. I email Jon a few times and we discussed options, and we came to the conclusion that the Stage 2 rebuild would be best for me along with a few extra goodies. JDM 11% taller 1st and 10% taller FIFTH and 4 spider center diff.

The only problems with the JDM 1st gears is that they are a bit weaker than stock. Jon warned me about them saying repeated high torque launches could shear the teeth off of them. I considered it for awhile, but I have confidence in my 1-2 shift with the good TRE synchros.
If Jon has some new info or new parts since I've seen him last, I would love to hear about them. If he found some other 1st gear that has the strength of OEM I would love to put it in my tranny.

JDM 11% taller 1st and 10% taller first and 4 spider center diff. DAMN!! That's like a total of 21%!! You can trap the 1320 in second gear!! LOL. Just playin homie.... I love your typos!!

Fixed it pauly! Oh and Matt this is not the GVR4 1st gear. The GVR4 1st is 7% taller than stock whereas this "JDM" 1st is 11%. Look in this link. Jon says this is the strongest 1st gear available for 92-99 AWD's, stronger than the stock 1st too and longer than the GVR4 1st. And it comes standard with double syncro's. Not really needed for me but thats how it comes. He lists the gear as a "TRE" 1st but he told me via email its a JDM gear. teamrip.com/GENUINE_FACTORY_AWD_PARTS.html

Hmm, sounds like a winner to me. It's too bad he didn't have that option when I got mine done there.

Hmm, sounds like a winner to me. It's too bad he didn't have that option when I got mine done there. It should have been available,he had that gear for awhile. I think that gear is way too tall for a 1320 car Dan. It's more toward a road race/rally style driving. You want to get out the hole and out of first gear as fast as possible. You have to ride way out past the 60' foot mark before you can shift with that taller gear.

Thanks for the insight. Jon said the same thing that it is geared for rally but he also says it does do awesome for drag. Oh and the the car is no way shape or form going to be a 1320 only car. If it were, I'd be building it alot differently. I think it would just be nice to have a 1st gear thats not totally useless.
Wereabouts will this gear top out at if you know the math? And will it be worse for 60's?

Took the trans into Jon today, man that was a blast! Within 10 minutes of being there they had the entire trans broken down into pieces right in front of me.
I told him the trans shifted fine for me but he was amazed b/c he pointed out quite a few things that were going wrong with it. He did say that the trans was really clean inside and still in pretty decent shape though.
Oh yeah he knew what type of mixture of trans fluid I had in it BY LOOKING AT IT. He was like "you got MT-90 and Shock proof in here don't you?" I was like "yeah".
So far my experience with TRE has been awesome. He even told me he could have it fully built by FRIDAY but I said no I'll just pick it up next tuesday. Jon is a awesome guy to deal with so far.

if you don't mind Dan, what's the rough ballpark price of your tranny work?

Last I remember it's close to 50-55 mph on a 24 inch tire. I personaly think it'll hender the 60' foot compaired to the stock 1st. You don't want to ride out that long in first gear unless your making like 1000whp then it's a different story. Curt Brown the 60' foot dsm master used the stock 1st gear if it says anything. Quick side note: I thought Jon was packing up and moving to Seattle long ago?!
