Well I got her on the dyno last night. She was strapped down for 6 1/2 hours and got in 8 pulls, kinda disappointed in the results. We were there to get it reliably tuned at 20psi, The car would only make 330 at 20psi. I don't know for sure whats going on with this thing. We did some experimenting with the cam gears with them at zero the car was only making 260hp, we set them at 1.5 retarded on the exhaust & 2 degrees advanced on the intake worked the best and made the 330. I guess alot of guys have had problems with these adjustables, A good friend of mine made 280 with the adjustables swapped them back to stock gears, nothing else and made almost 400 on the same tune. I guess we are going to degree the cams next. What do you guys think, have you had problems with adjustable gears?

No experience here, but I have been wondering if this might be an issue with Aaron's 2g as well.

So, what are you guys implying that is 'different' enough about adjustable cam gears that makes that much of a HP difference? Even with extremely loose machining tolerances, causing the cams to be slightly mis-degreed, it's not going to be a 120 HP difference....

I don't know exactly what is wrong with the gears, We will be laying out a stock and my adjustable, blueprint them both, and figure it out from there. I can with all certainty tell you that with just a few degrees of cam timing change I personally gained 70whp. 70 fucking horsepower is a huge gain, and I know the car still isn't right it should have made atleast 350 to 370whp. I'll get it figured I'm sure, only time will tell.

This has sparked a bit of interest for me, and I did a little researching last night. I did a search on NABR and located a member (Andre, dre99gsx) that was having issues with his cam gears as well. He noticed that the centerlines were within 1-2 degree from the cam sheet with the stock gears and 6-7 degrees off with his Fidanza gears.
This really makes me want to degree my own cams and check to see how accurate my gears really are. I'm not too keen on degreeing cams though. I understand the basic process, but I see myself running into roadblocks if I were to attempt it myself. Does anyone know of a walkthrough on how to degree a DOHC engine? Better yet- Does anyone have the time and knowledge to come to my garage and school me on the process? I can pick up all the nessacery tools (degree wheel, piston stop, solid lifters, beer, etc....).

In the last few issues of Turbo Mag. three is a 2 part article with AMS about decreeing in cams properly.

Maybe when we do mine we can make it a group deal, I don't know how to either, but have a good friend that does, and he's the one doing mine in the next couple of weeks. I'll let you all know when it goes down and we can set something up. I can degree a V8 but DOHC confuses me too.

I wouldn't have a problem degreeing an old V8, but I'm at a loss on a DOHC engine. If your buddy can help me out as well, I'd definitely be interested. Just shoot me a PM when the time comes. Thanks!

There is a youtube video on it. Those 2 brothers that were on nopi tuner vision were building a supra for another show. They gave pretty detailed description of it while they were doing it. I was kind of planning on watching the video for when I need to do my car.
