in my opinion an 8" wide wheel with a 40mm offset is perfect. just trying to help give you some options in your search. iirc tj kept telling me the second set of 17x8s on brandy's car were 30mm. they had a a little rubbing issues but they were so flush.

Well after many phone calls, Rota says they can make me their G-Force in an 18x9 with a +30mm offset with a concave face, but thats the best they can do. I'm waiting on a quote to get the Torque in the same specs.
I know of a few people on Tuners that run that set-up, so I've been talking with them about clearance issues and what not. So far I've gotten a lot of verbal confirmations, but no pictures that confirm that they won't stick out horribly.
Anyone actually see a DSM running an 18x9 +30 that can confirm this?

i havent but 30 is gonna be a lot especially with a 9" wheel. you'll need to go crazy with negative camber and a bit of tire stretch to have those sitting right. which done correctly could be badass but not entirely functional. the 18x9 30mm is a very standard evo 8-9 fitment. hell thats what my works were. personally no more than a 35mm and/or an 8-8.5" wide wheel on a dsm is my suggestion.

I got some pictures back from tsirider13 on Tuners: 18x9 +30. Not bad, a lot better than the 18x9.5 5Ziegen FN0R1s I tried on. If they had that wheel face in an 8 or 8.5" wheel with a 40-45, offset I would be thrilled.

Hello rubbing issues. It is quite annoying when you hit a bump on the highway and you hear this god aweful noise followed by the smell of burning rubber. Also when you launch and you can feel the back end fighting to turn. 2g cars have that huge lip in the rear and that makes it very difficult to run a tire that is flush with the fenders. Brandy's wheels are 17X8 +35mm offset and rub on most hard bumps when the gas tank is half full and almost anything when the tank is full. Hell we couldn't even take a fully loaded car to the shootout last year because every bump was making the rear rub. I guess if you are willing to deal with it for the sake of having a semi dished wheel, then go for it. I would just look for a wheel that looks great without as much curve.

Damn, thats a huge rim/tire combo. I only have a dinky 17x7 with a 42mm offset. I believe its a 225/45 or 40/17 tire. Never had any issues rubbing, but i'm also only dropped about an inch. and 17x7 is tiny.
How much do these rims normally weigh? Is there any disadvantage to running such a huge rim in terms of track performance?

TJ- yea, 35mm offset is on the low end...my Enkei's are +45 and they tuck perfectly. I've never rubbed even with a full carload and my low drop and really want to keep that. I guess I'll have to keep looking as I don't want my car to look like a rollerskate.
Aaron- The Works & Rotas weigh about 19lbs each...so a few lbs more than my 18x8s, but not enough to notice. Doubt that will affect 1/4mi performance.

huh wow that doesnt look as bad as i thought. then again it doesnt even hardly look lowered at all especially depending on the tire size they're running. i think you've just been hanging around brad too much and want a setup like he can run

Hahaha...Yea, I think you are right Brent. I should just buy an EVO to get nice wide looking wheels. Guess it's back to the drawing board.

A teaser shot of the engine bay. I took the week off and hope to have it fired up within a few days: [/quote]

Small update I guess. I was hoping to have everything done for the drags tomorrow night, but I figured a good running car is better than a good looking car, so no paint/clear on some parts and it needs to be buffed out. Trying to get the interior back together before tomorrow.
Other than that, I've got just a hair over 500 good break-in miles on the engine and trans, and am tearing up some pretty good pavement at around 30psi on pump gas with no knock. I sucked it up and re-did the -8an lines instead of using the stockers for the oil cooler. So far so good, and no leaks!
I had disappointing numbers at the dyno, but at least it feels really smooth and runs beautifully. I was having problems holding anything past 25psi, I would spike to 30 then taper off fairly quickly. One problem could be my low pressure WG spring, but the other ended up being 2 massive boost leaks on the IC inlet/outlet. I guess those never got tightened down since I could move the socket on them by hand. Suprised they never blew off.
My only issue with the car now is that it sounds very buzzy. I switched to a T3 .63ar housing for my 50-trim and I'm guessing thats what did it since my buddy's EVO with a 35r .63 sounded the same. Anyone else get the 'honda' sound in switching to the Garrett housing?
The new dual tip butterfly valve muffler went on last night, and WOW...with it closed cruising on the interstate all I hear is road noise. Very impressed with that.
Hopefully this weekend/next week paint will be 100% and ready for the shootout.

Sounds like you have been busy. Also you will get more a raspier sound when you switch to a much more efficient housing. You are taking away more restriction and getting it closer to having no turbo to muffle the engine noise.
