Ok so popups well not so great in my opinion and they make absolutly nothing for headlight coversions that i can find so i have had this idea in mind for a little while and wanted to run it by some of you to see what you think. I want to compleatly remove the "eyeball" assembly and fabricate a fiberglass housing and uses two foglights. There is a thread on dsm tuners of a guy who is doing this or did do it but he made it harder then the method i want to use he made a mold from clay and a bunch of difficult shit anyway.... So i thought i could use some plexiglass to build a sort of frame inside the eyelid socket and then lay the fiberglass inside of it then use two pieces of PVC pipe Not permanently but as guides for the foglights. Then seal the unit with like 1/8" plexiglass so the lights would shine through. Here is a shitty paint drawing i did i will have to do something better once i get my autodesk program back The red would be fiberglass, The blue are the PVC guides i was talking about as well as the fog lighting. I dont know its just an idea im gonna try it and see what i come up with

The only problem I see with this is that right in front of our pop ups is a glass light. So I really don't think all the glass would look good. That is the only thing that scares me about it. On a side note there is a way to get brighter headlights so you can pull the pop up fuse and the popups will stay down and shine through the clear piece in the front. I do this now with stock lights and don't really have a problem at all. Only time I wish they were brighter is on country roads. I just leave my brights on all the time.

Yes i understand that the bulbs are glass but i plan on removing the entire assembly, bulb, housing, everything and replacing it with fiberglass and plexi-glass. its still a work in progress im not sure how it will turn out but its worth experimenting with. I will try the fuse thing i never knew that before thanks.

Yeah, the guy that did this on dsmtuners gave up after he was 75% complete. It's a shame; I really wanted to see a final product. This would be a very difficult project to tackle. You'd have to locate a set of lights that shine like headlights, and the assembly would have to be very strong and sturdy so they dont bounce around. It sounds like an expensive project. I know the pop-up eliminator kits for the 3G RX7's are about $1200......

Yeah i know but the challange and the fact that no one has done it is what has inspired me to try its gonna be tough and expensive but when its done i think it will be worth it

I say go for it. It'd be pretty tight to have some kinda lighting option other than al-cheezas.

The idea is pretty cool to me. The other option that me and my room mate were thinking about was to get a set of 35mm or 40mm projectors and make them shine righ through the front. As for the plastic melting he was going to take them to work(plastics company) and cut the front out and plastic weld in a clear high heat piece. Just a thought though.

I never thought of using projectors That would fix the brightness problem I saw what it looked like with the fuse pulled out tonight it looked good except it wasn't very bright as you said. Let me know how it works out. I like the look of replaced popups though like on the rx-7's and the mr2's it looks sick so I'm going to try it and see if it works Im aiming for something kind of like this I also found a site that sells carbon fiber fabric i can use its www.fibreglast.com/category.php?categorycode=15&source=GOTO&keyword=carbon+fiberill keep you guys posted.

I really like the look of them on a mr2 and rx7 too. But I hope you understood what I meant earlier about the lens on the bottom. Mr2 and Rx7's have just bumper under the pop ups. Either way good luck maybe it will change my mind.
