Hey, just thought i would let eveyone know, that Napa now has Royal Purple oil and gear lube. this is something they just got (at least i just found out about it) so i ordered a crap load at my Napa(plainfield). Today i built the display, and i hope people will start coming in for it, i dont know of anywhere on the north side of GR where you can get it, with out driving to the south end of town. So if any of you run or want to run royal purple, come see me, i try to hook it up as much as possible. :-) Look at the purple goodness....

I haven't ran it yet, I've been running Mobil 1 15w50. Do you think its worth it? I've heard its over rated. Any input?

I haven't ran it yet, I've been running Mobil 1 15w50. Do you think its worth it? I've heard its over rated. Any input? The synchromesh is transmission fluid. I've never used their oil as I just now switched over to synthetic and have always had good luck with Mobil 1...plus Walmart has a 5qt jug of it for $21. I picked up some of the royal purple tranny fluid from Paul and didn't really like it; it was really really thin. It didn't have any of the usual hiccups when I first shifted into 2nd gear, but it just scared me having that thin of oil in there. My transmission also got louder (more gear whine and a weird noise when load was applied to the transmission). After talking with Jon at TRE I've decided just to use el cheap-o GL-5 thick gear oil and have not had a problem with it since I've switched. The new tranny shifts like butter with $2 a bottle fluid.

It's pretty popular for guys to mix 2 quarts of syncromax with one quart of shockproof gear oil. It basically just thickens up the syncromax. I believe big Steve has been running this mix in his DSM's for a while now. And I also believe that SBR has started selling it mixed like that.

Matt what kind of fluid did you use before? Royal Purple is way thicker than gm or pennzoil syncomesh. That and being synthetic was the reason why I started using it. When I drained the pennzoil that shit was like water after like 10 passes. Ming told me once that you could run motor oil and there trannys would still shift soild.

Angelo: I had used cheap-o stuff for the 1st trans break in, then GM/Pennzoil synchromesh, but had the same woes as to its thickness. I had heard that you could use motor oil from a few people at TRE as well, so that inspired me to use the Royal Purple formulated for trannys that require motor oil. Several people at SBR also recommended this to me. Cold shifting felt perfect, but after maybe 500-1k on it I got scared and ditched it. Jon was also telling me to avoid the mixing crap (shockproof stuff), he was leaning towards just your basic GL-5 gear oil saying his trans would shift fine with it. After the break-in, mine shifts beautifully at 8k so I'm not complaining. For my new TRE trans, I ran cheap-o stuff for break in and am continuing to do so with perfect results. I don't wanna fix it if it ain't broke, so the fluid is stayin in. My car is a daily driver year round, so I want something to hold up to several hours of highway driving (70+), operate at Michigans wonderful temperature range, and still hold up to my driving.
