Stock will handle more than you think. If you're set on aftermarket be prepared to drop some loot.

Well, how much power/torque are we talking about? What type of front differential do you have?

Even if you've already broken one. I say get a reman one with a lifetime warranty. If you break it, put a new one in, and then if you keep repeatedly break it, then look into DSS axles.
But I am willing to bet you won't have many problems.

You'll be fine. Side note #1: FWD + 400 WHP = shit. The lack of traction will make you hate life. Take my word for it, or ask Dan or Ben. Side note#2: You'll benefit GREATLY by using some sort of limited slip differential at that horsepower level as well. Differentiating an equal power split might also help preserve the life of those CV shafts as well.

ok cool, yeah i know ben and have seen that colt wheel spin all night lol. it was around 300 before i put it away and i have decided that i think i should go with some type of 2 stage boost controller to run less boost around town

a good set of tires and a lsd will be your best friend. beyond that, keep an eye out for good condition original turbo axles and go for those first if possible then go for some reman ones. but i'm willing to bet your axle was just old and tired and the wheelhop/spin finished it off.

My FWD RS absolutely sucks for traction..The thing you really need to do to keep your axles, is to not be very agressive on the launch. No dumping the clutch, and no wheelhop..that will kill the axles or trans very quickly. I wanted to get a good Quaife LSD in my trans, DSS axles, and a nice set of slicks for the RS, but that idea was dropped long ago when i got the AWD lol..
As everyone's been saying, the stock green cup axles, a good LSD, and non-agressive launches should work well. Also you mentioned boost control, and i used the Profec Spec 2 EBC, and that worked great at the track. I launched at 10 psi, hit second gear, then hit the steering wheel button control to switch to 18 psi. Helped greatly when launching. Even with a "Retrofit" LSD in my trans, and street tires, i could only muster a 2.3 60ft at the track..the toyo T1S's just didnt hook well..

Like everyone has been saying, for your HP goals you should stick with stock. I figured out real quick that you just need to learn to pedal the car when you make high HP and it starts to wheel hop. I could lay on the limiter all day and nothing bad would happen 'til it began to wheelhop. One time it even hopped so bad one of my injector clips came off and it was missing :-p . Also, if you are a cheapass and don't DD your car you *could* weld your diff. I was considering this for the Colt since a true LSD is very hard to find for under a grand. And lastly, get some good tires and new suspension bushings on your car. Rear control arm bushings (on the front arms) love to wear out.

Though we did more street racing than track driving, so it was always fun to pedal the car past people or freight train them when the car finally hooked.
