so i have been working on my g/f talon forever and a day, and i just can't figure it ok. So here's a list of whats been done. 1992 6bolt talon awd 4bolt 5spd 120,000 miles Stock new fuel pump new thermostat new ecu new fuel filter used but good 14b turbo new timing belt checked ohm's on injectors tested ok new ngk spark plugs and wires used coil pack and swapped with other still doing it no cat no emmissions block off plate on egr boost gauge air/fuel gauge k&n filter comp test of 150 on all boost test no leaks at 5 degrees before tdc changed knock sensor i think that's it now what it does when it idle's it misses at random and kinda makes a poof sound and when your driving (and i use my data logger to monitor the car) it runs good sometime and then sometimes it don't. The turbo goes but the motor does not , but if you take it out of gear and rev it up it works again, its completely random. it goes all the way to 43 counts of knock, the only noise i hear from the motor is a slight tick every once in a while from the lifters and its very faint. I have ran out of idea's and my dsmer friends do not have as much no how as me either can anyone help me?

check your grounds, make sure they are all clean and have good contacts. and at least once-over your wiring to see if theres any bad wiring. cant really think of anything else that would make it intermittently work well and then not. gl anyways

Your valves are sticking. Did you run some spray through that cougar yet? Does it go away at higher RPM's? Could be an injector.

I'd have to vote dirty/bad injector or possibly a bad 02 sensor. It might be bad fresh out the box.

Did you run some spray through that cougar yet? Tried once and it was not a happy about it.

Could be a bad power transistor unit.
I'd also check to make sure your plugs are tight so they are not leaking compression under load
If your air/fuel gauge is showing a sweep from lean/rich during idle /cruise I think your O2 is fine.

Ok.. I do agree with the fuel injectors because every once in a while when it almost stalls and we have to rev it up you can smell gas, but sometimes we could just be getting on it racing through town and smell gas. There are no leaks. But also, it only hesitates when it is throwing a knock.

Does it knock randomly or about every time you spool a full load? First thing I would try is checking your cam timing and make sure all the timing marks line up. A few teeth off could cause it. Then to find out if it's mechanical knock or real knock. Throw a couple gallons of lead gas in the car when it's about empty. If it does the same thing then I would look deeper into it like collapsed lifters, rocker arm popped off,or spun bearing.

The car does it randomly. I do not have to be boosting at all. Timing is all correct, we just re-did the timing belt. Wouldnt lead gas hurt the car?

No. Just burn a couple gallons to see then go right back to pump gas.

lead race gas has a pretty high octane rating. With the higher octane rating you will see if it is real knock or if you are having other issues. I am betting on other issues but it is good to check. Also lead can kill o2 sensors but that is after long exposure to it.
