Well as most of you know I work at a chrysler dealer...we got a truck in and because of carbon build up in the turbo we replaced it under warranty. The tech who replaced it told me that he would sell it to me for $200. It only has 8000 mi. on it...I'm wanting to run internally gated and the turbo is, but its electronically internally gated? Is there anyway that I can convert this over so it's not electronically Thanks Travis

Any idea on the brand/specs of the turbo? The wastegate arm should still be mechanical, even if it is operated by an electric solenoid. I'd be interested to see how some of the new variable geometry turbos work on retrofits. Should offer all of the low end of a small turbine housing with all the benefits of a large scroll.

I think it was free and he just kinda took it?? I looked at it today for a sec and its a holset, I'll get the serial number off of it later and try to get the specs. You are correct it is mechanical with and electronic solenoid. I think I'm just going to pick it up and hold on to it until I get my engine built

Unless Chrysler specifically states that no return is needed on the turbo warranty, its not his turbo.
Besides that, what kind of tech takes "bad" warrantied parts and sells them? Either way its not his turbo. I'd tell him to give you the turbo or start up some shit with management.
Plus that turbo has that adjustable vanes variable geometry crap, pretty sure it requires some sort of ECU control to actually work the adjustable vanes.

first of all if it was replaced under warranty chrysler will require it back otherwise the warranty claim will bounce and the your store will not get paid for the parts or labor which in short i'm sure will have both your parts and service managers pissed.
beyond that, it's in no way worth the effort to retrofit it. the exhaust housing is going to be waay too large for a dsm and dan is right to some extent that you wont be able to just rig it up and have it magically work correctly. sorry to burst your bubble. tell that tech to return that junk turbo and have a nice day.
on the other hand, cheap holsets can be found pretty easily and you can have a very healthy hx35 or hx40 bolt on setup for under $700 all said and done.

It is a vgt turbo... It is hard to use because the unique exhaust housing.. It has variable veins that pop out when the little computer chip tells it to. I have seem the VGT used with a internal gate pusing it open and then having the boost regulated externally.. Prolly not the easiest route.. I have only seen one used successfully on a dizzum.. Look it up on dsmtuners...

i know that y series are the standard but not sure on the g. i remember hearing the w series arent. that one has a different antisurge cover than the typical y series but my best suggestion would be to contact bullseye power or a bullseye dealer and confirm if its compatible. looks like it though.
