Alright so the time has come to do something about this. I want to keep my 14b "title" but I need it to be 100%. It's spitting oil over the back of my car and it's got too much shaft play for my liking. Anyhoo, to the point, I've read the thread on how to rebuild a 14b, and I've done one turbo in the past on my buddies car. I know it's not rocket science, after all it's just a bunch of nuts and bolts... but these ones spin really really fast.
Anyone here have much experience at all in rebuilding a turbo? I don't want to upgrade to a 16g (call me crazy) and I don't want to spend another $300 to send it out to get it rebuild, I might as well just buy a damn 16g.
So all I wanted to hear was a "yeah you can do it" or a "you're crazy man". Let me know
BTW I was looking to purchase the 14b rebuild kit from ForcedPerformance.

well if you do do it by yourself, mark everything so it is in the exact same position relative to each other when you re-assemble it. you *may* be able to get away with it still being balanced, but i would send it off to a shop to balance it to be sure. i think there may be one in the GR area who does it, but the name doesnt come to mind at the moment.

It's about $100.00 Well I'm gonna be putting one a different turbine housing (7cm^2 from a big 16G), so would that have an impact on me lining everything up?

in that case i would really do your research, building a turbo from internals with different compressor housings takes alot of knowledge to make good power. i would really suggest just buying a good 14b or just buying a new turbo from a company that knows what they're doing. you might have good results for all i know, but im just saying your money could be put better elsewhere in proven products. it may be the beaten path, but its a good one. the road less traveled takes alot of know how.

Silly 14b guys If it is $100 for the kit, just make a mark on the nut that goes on the shaft and also the compressor wheel. If you only change out bearings, there shouldn't be a reason for balancing it. Just be extra careful with the compressor nut because I have heard of them coming off after rebuilds.

Hey here is a guy that rebuilds turbo's for a good price. He lives in PA. Here's his profile on Tuners if you want to PM him: www.dsmtuners.com/forums/members/jusmx141-60709.htmland here's his e-mail address: jus97eclipsegs@aol.com His name is Justin. -P. This is the message i got from Paul when I had my 16g turbo rebuilt. He is a pretty strait forward guy. Plus I believe it only cost me 170.00. That was to send it to him, him rebuilding it, and him sending it back. I haven't had any problems with it yet.

I'm talking about the turbine housing, not the compressor housing. I know they bolt up. I was just worried about getting everything to line up correctly. I think I'm going to buy the kit and give it a whirl, it can't be that hard. I'll post pics and let you guys know how it goes.
