Hey guys, just wanted to ask if anyone on here is running speed density instead of a MAF? I'm running DSMLink V2 but I'm going to upgrade to V3 pretty soon and I'm tired of worrying about boost leaks and all the shit that comes with running a MAF.
I thought I remember that Paul is running V3 but I wasn't sure if he's running SD or not. But if anyone has any input lets hear it! Thanks

I dont have it but was curious(not to go off track)where is the sd ran from? Custom taped spot on intake mani?

Well so far it seems pretty easy. All you need is a MAP sensor which is cool because then I'll be able to log boost too, and an IAT sensor.

Yes, all you need is a GM IAT sensor right before the throttle body and a MAP sensor on the intake manifold plenum. Pretty simple to set up.
I ran the GM MAS with V3 all of 2009, but I've already sold my MAS and I have bother other sensors in place. I just need to finish a bit of welding on my IC piping and I'll be all set.

Cool. Well I should be getting my V3 upgrade via UPS tomorrow morning, now I just need some cash to pick up the IAT and MAP sensors.

The IAT sensors are cheap. MSD 2320 is the sensor with pigtail. And if you ever need a replacement sensor, get an Accel 74773.
The MAP sensor will depend on how much boost you plan to run.

I'm thinking that I'll probably just run the GM 3bar since I'm no where near 30psi yet and it should give nice accurate readings for idle. I'm just trying to find the cheapest price for the sensor and pigtail.
Can ya help me out on that on Paul?

I have a feeling that Summit Racing will be a bit cheaper on it.

Really? 21.99? Is that for the MAP sensor or the IAT sensor?

That's $21.99 for just the IAT and pigtail (MSD part number 2320). MAP sensors are more expensive than that, but a 3-bar shouldn't be too bad. I paid over a little over $120 for my 5-bar.

Also thinking about ditching my GM MAF and trading in my V2 for V3. Anyone around here actually run SD daily, or can comment on idle/light throttle quality? I've been happy with my GM MAF for years now and would like to switch this season to something a little more accurate and clean up the engine bay at the same time. Dyno day is in April, so I have until then to decide.

I running it on my eclipse, which is my DD. I'm running it in a way that isn't exactly recommended (I'm running the MAP sensor off from the FPR line and I'm also not even running an IAT sensor) and it runs awesome, it runs just as good and even better then the stock MAF.
I'm using the MAP to compare Boost EST and actual Boost as well as comparing my wideband to the AFR's that the car wants to see, and according to all of this is running great, not to mention 22 MPG average.

Did you set it up the way Tom suggests by using a stock MAF to set the tables before going full speed density? What kind of cams are you using and how is idle? Is part throttle tip in smooth?
I don't like to fix things that aren't broken, but it seems that speed density is the way to go. I just don't want to loose the 'normal car' aspects of my tune.

I actually just plugged it all in and switched it over to SD just to see if it would start up, and the default table ended up being almost dead on (the only changes I've made to it so far are the closed loop changes that you can fix with the wizard they include, but that also just comes up with changes and plugs it into the table for you, it requires some smoothing like Tom suggests, but works amazingly)
I'm running Comp Cams 101200's and my idle is perfect, it never stalls on me and I'm running the aluminum FP intake w/o recirculating my BOV. Pretty much all I can say is that everything is smooth with it, it works perfect, the only thing I have yet to change is to swap my current intake to one that I've drilled and tapped for extra boost/vacuum sources and I expect that to smooth it out even more.
I love it because once the table is set there's almost no reason to ever change it (except for possibly switching intakes and it would have to be quite a change). If you've got any more questions fire away.
