Hi guys. New to the forum, and back from a long DSM vacation. (like 7 years.) I bought a nice 92 talon tsi from a member, and was told to check the place out. I am sure I will be reading a lot of threads! lol Some of you might recognize this car.

I dont intend on wrecking it... Going to do a boost leak test on it wednesday. Has a slight studder to it when it comes into boost in 2nd gear. I put a new tire on the front today, was a slow leaker, so I went to pertersons and grabbed a cheap cooper to get me by till taxes get back. The plan is to get a replacement pillar and set up wideband, oil pressure and boost gauge... should be able to keep a good eye on it that way. Is the stock boost on these set at 10psi? (not wanting to jump up, just wondering what to boost leak test at.) thanks again guys!

Yeah 10psi is stock, could test it a little higher though. Depending on how many small leaks you find 10psi could disappear rather quickly. I do between 15 and 20psi usually on stock/used/old engines, but usually try to verify vague headgasket condition first with a comp. test is it's a engine I'm not familiar with. Plus it's just good information to know. Be sure to pay a little extra attention to the throttlebody shaft area, as well as the inlet and outlet of the side mount, as these seem to be the most common areas for leaks. Happy hunting!

Thanks for the heads up. I think I trust the info I was given when I bought it. Compression was 150 across all cylinders. I dont have any reason to not think it is. the car runs great. aside from a bit of stumble or hesitation its solid.
I am sched to get my taxes done around 3 30, so i will have a bit of time to look around.
Figure it might not be a bad idea to change the plugs and check the wires. Need to do a search to see what the general consensus is on what plugs to run.

I am originally from Florida, transplanted in the Cadillac area. Manton to be specific. (not in the top 100 places I thought I would be living when I was a kid...)

Where in Florida? I grew up in MI, but moved to Orlando after school for awhile, 2003-4 joined orlando club dsm, then later moved back here, and joined this site. It'd be funny if I actually knew you from ORLDSM, but unlikely.. I was also a member of tampa racing, and hung around the titan shop on weekends.
