So I'm alllmmooosst done with school and that comes with saying I'll finally be earning a paycheck and stop paying out-of-state tuition (thank god). So as for a car purchase, I wanted some other opinions about what you guys would do.
Things I've looked into:
Evo8,9,X '07, '11 STi E46M3 E39M5 11 Mustang GT
I figured I'd clean up the Talon and keep her for the winter since I'll be in Iowa for a few years. Throw me some ideas!

I vote M3 if you have the talon for winter. AWD for the winter RWD for the summer

i vote 11 mustang. those cars are a riot to drive and are a pretty nice all around package.
outside of that i'd say evo ix if you can find a clean unmolested one.

Yeah that' where I'm kinda going. I mean for a car that runs heads up with the E92M3 and I can get brand new for 35k-ish..

My vote is STi and then get a clean, rust-free 1g to tinker with. Drive STi year 'round and mod the 1g cause modding your DD isn't a good idea .

Ben I'm surprised, I thought you would've thrown a +1 up for an Evo over an STi.
Brent- Have you had the chance to drive one of the 5.0s?

We talked about this at dinner but I will say it again. The mustang is the best value of the bunch. A nice blue Evo 9 would be my second choice.

Ben I'm surprised, I thought you would've thrown a +1 up for an Evo over an STi. I love me an Evo, but an STi has more creature comforts and is more refined for a daily. Plus I would be way more likely to mod the crap out of the Evo and get myself in trouble. Drive one and you'll understand compared to an Evo. You don't want to rely on a car that old for a year round DD man. DSM's are way way more fun to mod when you know you don't have to worry about putting it all back together to drive the next day.

TJ is gonna back me up on this too, but I would rather have a Forester than an STi. Very similar just larger and sexier. More room and doesn't look so "boy racer". We drove one that was probably a mid 13 sec bolt-on car. I couldn't think of a better DD that I would enjoy EVERY time I drive it.

yes i drove a new 5.0 coupe with performance package last fall (19s and brembos) and i was hooked instantly. it pulls strong from 2k all the way to redline and will easily bark the tires in third. not to mention it just feels solid and looks great too. i didnt get a chance to take it around many turns but feels very capable as well.

Yeah TJ was telling me about that Forester the other day after class. I've spent pleeenty of time behind the wheel of an STi which is where I came to the realization about those creature comforts compared to an Evo and definitely agree. True about the Talon too, I think it'd be ok if I rebuilt the engine and drivetrain; but it all depends on whether I want to or not.
I'm seriously considering the new 5.0 (Brembos, HID, the works) and think I could budget in some sort of winter car before the snow comes. The more people I talk to that have driven one have nothing but good things to say about it.
What mods did that Forester have that you drove?
