Been trying to help a buddy with his 91 tsi awd. When he went to purchase the car, he took it for a ride and the check engine light came on, guy checked it, knock sensor code. Took it for another ride, it came back on. He assumed it was the knock sensor, so to make the sale, he took his off his running car and put it on. Been having issues with the same problem ever since. Haynes says voltage at the harness side of the knock sensor should be between 8-11 volts (ON position, not running). Voltage is at ~5.6V. Problem is Haynes doesn't say what to do if the signal voltage is low. Tried swapping my ECM into the car, and it does the same thing. I'm at a loss now, any suggestions???
