ATS (Active Tail Silencer)
Anyone use or heard this Silencer ? Any thoughts ?
Im trying to keep the car as quite as possible but want an aftermarket exhaust system, Ive always been a huge fan of the endurance n-1 syste, from apexi.
here is some info on the ATS from the apexi-usa.com page
" The ATS was developed as a high performance evolution to the standard tail pipe silencers available in the market today. While many people enjoy the power gains of a racing exhaust on the track, often times these systems require a silencer to be installed in the tip for use on the street. While sound output can be dramatically lowered using a non-adjustable silencer, unfortunately response and power tend to suffer due to increased exhaust gas restriction. The ATS (Active Tail Silencer) uses the same active valve technology as the PS Revolution exhaust system. The spring loaded valve is engaged and disengaged based upon exhaust gas pressure. This allows for effective sound suppression for the street, without the power loss under high load. Dyno tests have proven power levels to be nearly identical to an exhaust using no silencer at all. I have an Apex'i N1 on my car, and it's really not that loud. I'd say the restriction you would be causing isn't worth the quietness.

I had a tail silenced muffler on my old 95 GS. It didn't silnece at all. It changed the tone at idle, but that's about it. If you want to silence an exhaust without restricting much at all, use a resonator.

Do it the MLF tuning way...put an electric exhaust cut-out right before your muffler. Trim about a half an inch on the top and the bottom of the flapper and voila...with the switch closed you've got a quiet (but slow) car...flip it open and you have the full sound and power a 3" exhaust will provide.
