I'm lookin to get a wideband pretty soon and had a couple q's.
first one is which one, i've heard aem and innovative are good brands to go with. are there any better choices or better bang for the buck?
second one is do i have to get a gauge with it? couldn't i just wire the new one into the old harness and use link to tell my af ratio?
Third is where to place it? i've read with the aem ones that the sensor is recommended 36'' away from the exhaust manifold, but does it make any difference if i were to put it in the stock location?
thanks

AEM, Innovate, and PLX are all good. You don't need a gauge at all. You can wire an output directly to your ECU and datalog it with LINK. Don't ask me how though - it's been years since I set mine up, and I've since forgot all of the details of how I did it. There's got to be a few threads on the Link boards that talk about it though.
If you want a kit without the gauge, look into the Innovate LC-1. Kit with sesnor and bung can be had for pretty cheap. Talk to Tyler from Street-n-strip. He should be able to hook you up on one for about $200 or so....

I use both the AEM UEGO gauge type wideband on the RS-T, and I use the PLX w/digital gauge on the Laser. Forget the AEM, the PLX is wonderful. I think I paid 270 for the controller/sensor/and gauge. It works great with my Megasquirt. Check it out: www.plxdevices.com/products/dm5/afrsmcombo/ Also, I have seen many DSM's run a wideband o2 in the stock location. I mean, a normal o2 sensor was fit there from the factory, and a wideband is just another type of o2 sensor. Most wideband makers say 18" from a turbo, but thats for those who really run some hot EGT's..like 1650+ degrees.

Many people have logged a 200+ degree temp drop from manifold to o2 housing. I have ran the same wideband sensor in the stock location in my car, Ben's colt, and now Brandy's talon and had no issues other than a short in the wire that goes from the controller to the 02 sensor. I run the Zeitronix but most out there are very nice units.

My talon also runs the zeitronix in an even closer position then stock. i have a tubular o2 housing, and for what ever reason, its o2 bung is super close to the turbo. and its been that way for 2 seasons now, and still works great.
