Some of you may have noticed my lack of absence around the dsm forums lately. Well an old bug big me for the love of stupid loud bass and I'm in the process of building a big ass system in my Ram. I've been spending alot of time on the car audio forums.
I'll update this project as it progresses. I'm still waiting on about 100 packages to come in the mail, but here's what I have so far.
The system in my truck will consist of a single 18" RD Audio Heavy Weight Ground Pounder Version Sub. Its dual 2 ohm voice coils, and rated at 3,000W RMS. It will be powered by a RD Audio 3250v2 amp at 1ohm. They put out about 3200W at 1 ohm at 14.4v. The box I'm building will be about 5.7 cu. ft after sub and bracing displacement, tuned at 33hz, with about 100 sq. in of port. It will be sub forward, port up along the back wall. I have removed my 2 person seat in my truck but leaving the 1 person seat so I can still have a passenger in the back. The truck will still carry 4 people. My old system took up the 1 person seat so I'm only loosing one more seat.
So far in my possession I have my Optima red top for the front, and my C&D 135ah 100lb beast of a battery for the 2nd battery. Look at them things compared to the "large" version Optima! The other one is my buddies. These batteries are 12v and are designed to be used for backing up UPS systems in the event of a power outage. They cost over $300 new, but I found these in Hudsonville for $100 each picked up. He even threw in that set of Knu Konceptz RCA's that I'll be using as well. I also got my multiple 300a fuse holders and fuses in. These go for $20 each new, but I found all 3 for $22 shipped! I also got a bag of 100 1/0 ring terminals that I'll be needing alot of.
In the mail that I'm patiently waiting on is the following.
- DC Power 270 amp alternator. This beast weighs 18lbs and puts out 200a at IDLE... Its a bad dude.
-100 ft. of Shok super flexible 1/0 power/ ground cable. I'll be running to runs of this throughout the entire system.
- The RD Audio HW GP sub. It just got finished being built today and will ship out Monday.
- The RD 3250v2 amp. Its also .5 ohm stable for daily use and puts out around 4,000w at .5, but it will draw 250+ amps. It was shipped a few days ago so I should have it soon.
- An Eclipse CD8445 Head Unit. Its got a great EQ and 8v preouts. Not many companies make HU's with 8v preouts. I got this gem on ebay last night for $100 shipped.
- A pair of Knu Koncepts battery terminals with (3) 1/0 outputs.
- About 50ft of pure copper 8ga. power wire to run the sub.
- A few Stinger 1/0 T-fittings that I need to double up the amps power and ground feeds. I am trying to get some custom Cnc'd brass blocks made to go directly into the amp so I don't need the T-'s.
- A Stinger blue LED digital Volt meter.
- About 30 1/4" and 5/16" 1/0 ring terminals to be used on the small battery bolts on the C&D's.
And probably some other misc stuff I forgot about.
Here's some drawings of the box I'm going to build using Google Sketchup. Its like AutoCad but not quite and its free. I do have 2 versions of autocad to use, but this was easier for this project.
Besides these drawings, I plan on 45'ing the corners of the walls, adding 1/2" threaded rod in spots for added bracing, and I may even fiberglass the corners for strength and better airflow. I am also hoping to countersink the sub into the top board, hopefully I can find some 1" MDF or baltic birch to use for the front facing.
And here's a rough drawing of the dual 1/0 amp input blocks I am trying to have cnc'd.
Hopefully something comes in the mail tomorrow and I can update this with some more pics.
