Thanks, Shane. Dale and I have been doing some garage "improvments" as of late, so not much progress has been made on the 1G. But, I should have a handful of updates to report back with in one week.

A couple updates: All glass is removed except for the windshield: I picked up a set of crank-window doors from Elmo. I got one gutted already. here's a side-by-side pic to compare them: I also got the seat mounted in place last night. I decided against the aluminum angle stock for the seat. I wanted it to sit a little higher, and at an angle. And I found a poly seat mount kit at work made by Jaz. It's cheap and not that heavy. Also, notice that I moved the seat's lcation about 2.5" towards the center of the car. This puts the driver more in-line with the steering column, and also mush less of an angle between the center of my body and the shifter. This should make shifting more precise (less chance of the dreaded 2-3-2 mis-shift). And for fun, here's a 15-20 lb. sack of removed sound deadener: Within the next two weeks, the engine and tranny will be coming out, as well as the installation of the roll bar. After that will be more weight reduction, and sanding off all the paint. I'm also going to fab up a tubular lower radiator support.

Hey what are those bracket looking things on the rear? Is that how the stock spoiler mounts?? The progress is looking good. I hope I get a chance to drive it once. Everyone has been building sweet projects and I've only driven my mostly stock 16g car. I wanna drive something with some real power some time. ***MAd props to me for remembering that Elmo had some crank doors in his garage*** Its coming along good Pdoggy Dogg.

Mad props for sure - he gave me a pretty good deal too. Yeah, those are the spoiler mount brackets. Yeah, I'll let you drive this car or my '99. Hopefully they are both running next year.

Those 2 piece seat brackets don't look very strong at all.

Those 2 piece seat brackets don't look very strong at all. Well, they don't need to be made of sewer plumbing... I was skeptical as well, but after getting everything bolted in place, you can grab the seat with two hands and shake it and the entire car moves. The seat is solid. Plus this is a product endorsed by a safety company to be used with poly seats such as the Jaz, Allstar, and Summit seats, so it's proven to work. We've sold over 600 sets of these brackets at lane since the introduction of our Allstar poly seat, and have had no complaints to date. They are more than meet the eye, Dan-O. Thanks Optimus Prime!

Oh I didn't know the brackets were intentionally made for mounting seats. I am less skeptical now as well.

You know, just don't wanna see you hit the wall and have the brackets break and kill you.

You know, just don't wanna see you hit the wall and have the brackets break and kill you. I hear ya. Assuming I do hit a wall, as long as I don't roll the car, I should be OK even if the seat/brackets fail because the harness should keep me in place. It will be anchored to the car's chassis and the roll cage, so theoretically I should still stay in place.

As tall as I am, I'm surprised that I'm comfortable sitting this far forward. Lack of a dash and the smaller diameter steering wheel help though. Here's a pic of me sitting in place with a broom stick mocked up to simulate the doorbar. Everything looks good thus far.

Nice Paul. Those brackets are the same ones that confirmed that my idea would work. I love the broomstick pic. ROFL!!!

Well, I finally convinced Dale to help me last night and we pulled the t-case, axles, engine, and tranny. Everything went smooth and we managed to get it all done from start to finish in about 1.5 hours. Everything was going smooth until I started unbolting the t-case and I realized something fishy about the oil pan..... One of the rod bolts was sticking through it! After I removed the t-case, I realized the extent of the damage: And while disconnecting the connections on the starter, I discovered a couple holes about the size of golf balls through the block, right behind the starter. Needless to say - this block is toast. And I'll be shopping for a replacement sometime this winter. Let's just pray the head is still ok (even though there's only about a 2% chance of that). Nevertheless, I cant wait to pull the pan and see the carnage!
