dogbox, yes. They're alot easier to daily drive than you think (once you get the hang of it) hoosier QTP 26x9.5x15. Cured my previous wheel hop issues. I am wondering if your breakage issues could be solved with a 24.5" tire. Turning a smaller tire should help a little with breaking problems and help you get out of the hole a little easier. I can't remember if you are on a 2.0 or not but if so, your traps should still be in a safe range for 4th gear running a smaller tire.

2.4l, so I have to run 26" tire. The car will be going alot faster very soon after the turbo/manifold swap. I'm estimating close to 150mph traps w/o nitrous, 155 with. Someone suggested trying a street radial tire in back with hoosiers up front.

bwahaha that would be a funny tire setup. I would follow what Paul is saying. Making everything solid will help to hopefully keep everything together. Once the pumpkin housing flexs and those teeth separate a little, it runs the risk or stripping easier .

Doesn't an 8.8 take less HP to run, and weighs less? Having the same gear ratio as a factory DSM is a huge bonus too. I also believe you can get Ford axles with 5x114.3 bolt pattern. Gary Chios runs one in his car correct?

I think its unlikely the case is flexing. The rear cover is built like a tank, 25# of steel alone.
Troxel will be doing the back half and solid rear install for me. He strongly recommended the 9" over the 8.8 for the options that are available. Supposedly any gear ratio is available including 3.54. I don't know about the bolt pattern, that is a good question though.

I also believe you can get Ford axles with 5x114.3 bolt pattern. That's the standard Ford pattern. Even still, it's super easy and cheap to get custom axles made in any confirguration for a 9" pig.

Hey Brian, You have a few options before going to a full rear end setup you should try. With the shep dogbox with the higher 1st gear you would be alot better off with a 24.5in tire. It would be alot less stress full on the drivetrain. I personally think that the 26in tire is the demise of Jake Montgomery's car breaking parts like crazy this year also. The gearing is way too tall for the weight of the car. You can see how much loading of the car it takes him just to keep wheel speed up on the launch. With the same drivetrain you have I know a handful of guys running the 24.5in with no problems. What rpm do you go threw the traps at on your best mph run? Forget about the cover, try to brace and triangulate the cover/rear end to the subframe to keep it from twisting.

7000rpm at 140mph trap in 4th gear. What rpm would I see at 155 on a 24.5 tire? I don't see any smaller QTP tires listed either. MT does have a 24.5 drag tire.
The ring gear on a 2g is only 6.75" diameter. Thats pretty small considering 600+whp is going to it on launch. I discussed my problem with shep - he suggested trying a cusco LSD. It *might* help the ring gear from deflecting if that is the problem. That would cost me $1800 to swap over, and it may not help. Heck I've already spent over $5000 on repairs and axles in the back. That money could have paid for a bullet proof setup and 150# weight reduction.
Jakes car seemed to be doing fine. He mentioned running 25# of boost in first gear, and I think that is what kept it from breaking.
Then some heavy competition showed up and he had to push it. I doubt he can run much more trap speed on gas, so the only way to improve et? launch harder.
