Here we go, i'm going to try and update this thread. Since my last post ALOT has been done, fixed, discovered and fixed more.
We thought it was just a head gasket, but upon inspecting the pistons closer, the #3 piston had a hot spot on the top, where it had actually melted a bit. so we dropped the pan, pulled the piston out the top, and vola, there was my problem. Cracked the hell out of a piston, (i'll get some pics soon). it was real bad, hard to explain, but a few more hard pulls and it would most likely fallen apart.
so at this point i decided i wanted to patch together this motor for the rest of the season, i mean the shoot out is so close, so i didnt want to have to rebuild the motor like everyone else. :-)
Ended up dropping 4 new factory replacement 8.0 compression pistions(only thing the company top line offered i guess.) Either way, it was cheap as hell, 160 for 4 pistons and rings. i also went with new rod bearings, new head gasket, had the head cleaned, checked and a valve job done. New valve seals and other parts and pieces here and here.
all said and done, it was only like 400 give or take to put my motor back together. Thanks to TJ and Matt once again, they saved me alot of money and time with there help.
I'm currently on 10psi and around 75 miles. at 25 i changed the oil and filter, then flushed the coolant, and have been driving around town in all different gears and rpms. i'm sure by now the rings are pretty good and seated, but i'm going to get some more miles at 10psi before i hook up the boost controller again.
either way, more boost will come, and with a redefined tune, i should be strong again for the shootout. :-)

I forgot all about the pictures, i'll bring those pistons home this week.
Well, some disappointing news tonight, and no.. my motor is still in one piece. Went out to Stanton tonight with my buddy from work and ran our cars.
After rebuilding the motor with a touch lower compression pistons and new rings, valve job, cleaning, and tuned for 110 running about 22psi.. i have managed to run a slower time then before the build, when i thought i was only on 3 1/2 cylinders.
best of the night 12.93 @ 106.87 with a 1.90 60ft. using launch control. For kicks i turned it off, and ran a 12.94 @ 108.39 with a 2.04 60ft.
my previous best was 12.76 @ 109.71 with a 1.89 60ft. and this was the night i blew the dipsick out, so i know i was having piston issues that night.
So i don't know whats wrong, i have some major issues some where because theres no reason a 22psi on race gas run should be slower then a pump gas 18psi run. But i have noticed that i'm not holding boost on the top end like i should. i saved the logs, so i'm going to check them over and see what it looks like, but in Norwalk i first noticed that it would not hold 25psi all the way to 7k. but it would hold 20psi. Well tonight it would not hold 22psi, so i either have run out of turbo, or have a major leak somewhere.
at this point i have 2 choices.. Run it into a pole or sell it.. neither of which i am ready to do. so time to start figuring out why my car is slow.
either way.. I'm so glad i didn't embarrass my self at the shoot out.

hmm I would check for leaks man. Also let me see the logs. Remember I made your car very very rich because of the last problem. There is also a lot of timing left in it. The race gas might have hurt you because of how rich it is.

Ya, i'll have to stop over and do a boost leak test soon here. And after this tank of 110 runs out, i'm going back to pump, so we will have to get some seat time in. I know you have been very busy, so i've just been running 110 for the last couple weeks. Expensive i know. :-) i actually put 50 bucks in last night at the track. I had to have gas to get home on.
but i'm going to start eliminating problems, and i think boost leak test is the first step. Also, in the next few days i'm going to get a compression test to make sure everything is still sound inside.
and of coarse checking the tune is another step. then when both of those look good.. and its still not fast like it should be, that 18g is going to get ripped out and thrown away. :-) JK, but i do want to get a new turbo soon. maybe over the winter. along with a new tial bov.
How should i send you those loggs? Email them to you? they are just excel files right?

I have only went for a half a week and I already hate school.

i gave up on the car last fall, especally after the starter went out, and it didnt even get put away until mid december. so after a new starter, i got it in the garage and it sat all winter. Fast forward to now, and its back on the road. today i orderd a new Tial 50mm BOV. the old design, not the new Q. I ordered a black 50mm with the 7psi spring because of my low vacuum. Along with that i had to order a new 45 IC pipe where the BOV is located. the tial flange is going to be welded in place, along with a 1/4npt bung for the boost source to the wastegate. then all powered coated black to match with my other pipes. I orderd both from www.extremeturbosystems.comEveryone i talked to says the tial is the shit and will have no problem holding any boost i can put at it. and still have no problem opening, unlike this greddy pos i currently use. So once that gets shipped, it will be a quick 15 minute bolt in, and hopfully i will have elminated one boost leak. and then we can begin tunning again and get it back up to around 20. Next on the list is going to be the new MS 2.0 chip so that we can work out the starting/idle issues i'm having. then after that there isnt much i'm going to do. My plan is to once again run stock appearing at the shootout, but have it tuned perfectly and have some track time in before we go down. So there isnt much more i can do to my car with out going out of the stock appearing class.

Good choice going with the MS2 ;D The board will need a few minor mods for the inputs, nothing major though. The only other thing, is that i have no idea if the MS2 4g63 code will work with the separate 2G crank and cam sensors...I'm thinking it will, but wont know for sure until it's tried. If not, then you will need a 1G CAS. If so, hopefully the cams you have, well at least the intake cam, is slotted for a CAS( i have no idea if all of them are or not). Either way, the MS2 is sweet..its been running my laser perfect.

both intresting points, and i do believe the cam is slotted for it. i know they were drilled and tapped to accept the 2g sesnors, so i'm sure that means they were at one point 1g cams. i could be wrong, and maybe we can get lucky and have my sensors work. then again, maybe we should just do the 1g sensor and be done with it. lol. either way, thats down the road aways yet. i wanna try to smooth things out with my current MS for the time being, at least for the next couple months until i get the money to order the MS2.

While you are in there Matt, you should use another output for his stock fans. That way he can ditch the manual switch and just have them come on whenever the MS tells them to.

That actually wont need any board mods to do..the MS2 code can "port over" the fan output to the normal "idle" output, which is already on the board, and built to drive a relay. Easy...I dont remember if i put a spare wire on the DB37 for the idle output though..no big deal though.

Well the Tial came in this week, so thursday i got it put on and all hooked up. That thing is sweet, it holds everything and opens at any pressure with no problem.
Then last night i took a trip to TJ's and we did a little work. Installed a heat shield on my manifold, new ngk plugs and wires, and attempted to cure my 2psi boost drop at 6k with a few washers shiming the wastegate. That was unsucessful.
But we did get it running really well. fixed a bunch of the driveability issues and got it running strong on around 24 psi. we were joking last night that it was alot faster because i couldnt seem to shift fast enought. i kept hitting the rev limiter, so i guess i just need to get a feel for it again.
after last night we just need to fine tune it in ever so slightly and get to the track. i see no reason why it couldnt be a mid to low 12 car right now. Especally since i walked a mustang with a built motor and a 50shot. and he thinks his car is high 12's.

Glad you like your Tial BOV. I love mine and just like you said, opens at any pressure and holds anything (sounds pretty sweet too lol)
