OK, finally i had time to get some pictures. and a lot has happened since the last time i posted. For one, TJ wanted to make me an intake pipe because my gank ass, napa slap together wasn't well designed, or well put together. But it worked for the time. I orignally built it so i could get that MAF out of the way. So he welded and put together an awesome pipe. i filed down all the welds nice and smooth and polished it a bit. looked really nice. all 3" pipe with a open K&N on the end. (you can have your filter back soon ben. :-) ) He also build a wall between my filter and my engine bay. essentially keeping as much heat away from the filter as possible. It turned out really well and it worked like a charm. just on the testing to the track and my runs on the track, we think it dropped my intake temps by almost 20 deg. They use to sit around 100deg even with my FMIC, but now are down around 80deg. Those changes along with some fine changes on the tune at the track allowed me to net a 12.5 at 111mph. As you may have read on the midnight madness thread, we gained 3 mph over the coarse of that night. Just from leaning it out a bit, and adding a degree of timing. This is all on pump 93 still. Theres no plans for race gas as of right now, so we are getting all we can from this pump gas tune. Then today i went one more step forward in keeping my intake temps cool. I bought some thermal temp wrap and wrapped my intake pipe that TJ just built. The stuff I used is good up to like 1200 degrees and reflects radiant heat really well. I had a little extra so i put some on my upper hose. I think i may end up getting a hose sleeve for that so the entire thing is covered. If this helps i will leave it, but if not i'll end up taking it off and just getting that pipe powder coated. well, heres some pictures of the current setup. :-)

Thats really nice. Iv bee conciderig doing somthing similare for my setup cause with the old intake, it made the lowers radiator hose push against the shifters. Now I have something for comparison, lol.
O and you still have AC and cruise. Haha thats awesome.

let me know if that wrap helps your intake temps more. i've always wondered about how much that would help since i wrapped mine a long time ago.

Yup yup, still have everything on the car that came on it, well other then the things i have replaced, but stock AC/PS, power everything, no sunroof, full leather interior with power driver seat, and cruise. I think the last time i checked with me in it, it weighed like 3380 or something like that.
I have been considering taking the AC out, but only because i almost never use it. with my current setup(no IAC motor) i cant have the AC on in the city, i stall out at lights, but i can use it on the highway. BUT you can feel it drain all the power out.
So to simplify up the engine bay i have considered taking it out. but cruise, i'll never get rid of that, i love my cruise on the highways. i'm a lazy driver.

Looking good. We still need to find some sort of foam or something to cover the gap between the hood and the plastic block off panel. Were you able to see if your intake temps were lower the other night?

No, i left my computer at home, some time this week i wanna get out and check that out. as i figured the extra stuff i put on the rad hose is already unsticking, but thats why i'm going to try and find a sleeve.
Thats another thing i'm going to do today, see if i can get like door molding or something. in my mind that would work perfect, but idk if we sell it.

Go the the hardware store and get copper piping foam wrap. It's black and comes in a variety of thickness to make sure you get a solid seal. It's like $2-3 for several feet of it. The best part is you can get it with this super sticky stuff on each "end" that will prevent it from shifting and falling off.
I had built a box very similar to yours and then Pinder and I cut a 4" hole right below the actual filter since it is only sheet metal and installed 5" dryer ducting from the inlet for the SMIC to that hole. I put wire mesh right before the filter to prevent leaves and crap from getting in there and removed the duct in the winter since I drove it year round and did not want snow in the engine bay.
I never had a true intake temp sensor, but Pinder, Randy, Matt, Ash, Josh, Aj, Brent, Paul, Dale or anyone else from the area that went out cruising with us can tell you that the intake pipe itself was so cold sometimes that there was like an icy frost on the pipe. It was amazing. It was maybe $10 total in parts and made a significant difference. I'd highly recommend it to anyone.
Tip: drill some holes in the bottom of the dryer ducting to let water drip out. I never had a problem with my filter getting wet or anything and could get it on and off within 20 mins. when I took it off for the winter months.

Aaron - Did you ever figure out what that 2-wire plug (near the fuel rail outlet) goes to?

nope, haven't looked into it much either. car ran fine without it, and the defrost worked on the way home, so it must not be that important. lol

I just got done looking at my old pictures and realized i havent updated this in a while. Alot has happened since the last update.
Installed an Evo3 Intake Manifold with 1g Throttle body and ported the stock 2g elbow.
Matt installed the new MS2 Board and got installed on the car.
Switched to a 1g NT regulator and rail along with feed and return lines. I had to do this in order to run in the stock appearing class at the shootout.
I found some sweet door edge molding at napa and put that ontop of the plexi glass box around my filter.
Fixed my boost leak in the top end. All this year i had been fighting a 2psi drop in boost, and overall unstable readings. I ended up shiming out my wastegate with 3 washers so it almost doesnt even open the gate door. now not only does it hold boost, it creeps up.
And last night we got it pretty well tuned in on 110 race gas. As of last night we are pushing 25/26 psi. I must say its pulling harder then ever before.
Things left to do before the shootout - 1. Get the launch control to work properly and effectivly. 2. finishing tuning and turn up the boost a little more. 3. Go to 131 on wednesday and put down a few good runs 4. Make sure the cars going to fit on the trailer i'm barrowing. lol 5. pray to god everything holds together for the next 3 weeks (including the actuall shootout)

I ended up shiming out my wastegate with 3 washers so it almost doesnt even open the gate door. now not only does it hold boost, it creeps up. Well, that little boost issue may have returned. last night we went out and got it tuned in for 30psi, and it would hold for most the gear, and then drop a few psi at the end of the gear. just like it use to do, so i think for the shoot out we may be putting another washer on each side. either way, i couldnt believe how had this thing pulls. its the fastest its ever been hands down. Its funny because my boost controller is turned all the way down now. so maybe i'll just have to unplug it and see what boost it makes. lol I cant wait for wednesday, its gotta be sitting at a low 12 if not high 11. or at least i would hope.

Sounds like that MS2 is treating you well hug? lol Have you or TJ done any listening for knock at all? Just curious to see how the MS2 does with that semi-sequential injection at high load and rpm..

Last night TJ recorded a few pulls with the knock sensor, as well as logging them with MS. I have to email them to him.
but as far as i know there was no knock. we pulled the plugs before going to 30 from 27 and there was no specks on the plugs, and he had his headphones on the entire night.
So far everything seems to be working great. I still have to turn on my fan switch when we are beating on it hard, it seems to cool better if i do that. Maybe they are wired to the low setting? either way, MS2 is working great.
We havent got the launch control to work yet, but we only played with it for a minute before we went tuning. so we gotta do that before the track wednesday. hopefully everything works correctly.
