Id like to see the hx lay it down but that seemed like a pretty decent deal you picked up. She up and running again yet? Tuned? Track ?

Well the turbo setup finally came in today! talk about a long wait. I have an intercooler pipe and 90 elbow connector on the way, as well as a T3 PTP turbo blanket ordered. If all falls into place as it should, I'll have it installed on friday/saturday. I'll be sure to take some pictures along the way.
First time in a long time I have been excited about my car, and it only took 1200 bucks to do it. haha

Well, let me first start off by saying.. This turbo is Awesome! I started the install Friday afternoon even though my IC pipe and coupler was still not here. I gathered some supplies up from my work (Napa) and made a make shift Elbow and connector hoses. After I had that stuff, I had the local muffler shop put a weld on the two exhaust connectors and I used there grinding wheel to smooth out the edges. I also ordered this sweet T3 turbo Blanket from PTP. www.ptpturboblankets.com/t3blk.shtmlIt made it on time for the install and went on great, It should help with under hood temps as well has spool up time. After awhile TJ came down and helped me get everything squared away and installed. By the end of the night we had everything bolted on and ready to go. We had to remove the AC fan for the time being, because with the wastegate dump tube it just wasn't going to fit. And my AC belt is currently not installed, so it doesnt matter too much. Just gotta keep on eye on my coolant temps. I dont care for the Intake pipe that came with it, so hopefully TJ can make up something that looks and functions better. I also would like to replace the shotty dump tube that came with it had make up something a bit nicer. Either way they are just small things that can be done with time. I was not sure what spring the turbonetics wastegate had in it, so I turned out my manual boost controller as far as I could. The first time I gave it enough gas to open the waste gate it was around 13psi. After TJ worked his magic on Mega squirt, we had a few good 3rd and 4th gear pulls down. It holds 13 and then creeps to 14-15 after about 5k. This turbo just keeps pulling all the way to 7k. Already at 15psi it feels almost as fast as the 18g setup. We know after looking at the logs its not, but I bet by 20psi we will have passed the power of that setup on 35psi. Overall I'm really excited for this summer, I just hope everything else holds together, and I still need to address some other problems. Like ball joints, a u-joint issue, and motor mounts. Heres a few more pictures of the setup pre-install. I'll try to get a few more of it in the car tomorrow. I forgot to take any pictures during the install. But once My IC pipe and elbow come I'll get some more shots.

Looks good man. Now go get those 11s Thanks, Looks like we are going to try for this friday night at 131. Over the weekend we finally addressed some issues and got it dialed in pretty good. When we first went out to get a baseline tune, it was around 15psi. It pulled hard, but was in the 13.X AFR's... which is way to lean. But anytime TJ tried to add fuel to it, it would breakup and fall on its face. We could not figure out what the hell was wrong. That was Friday night. We were trying different settings, and checking with people for ideas when we started to think the Wideband o2 sensor could be going bad. So at work on Saturday I discovered that zetronix zt2 wideband kit uses a VW o2 sensor, and so does many of the major manufacturers for that matter. So I tried looking one up for an 02 VW GTI with a v6 and vola! I found a Bosch replacement identical to my current o2 sensor. I even had it on the shelf!! Napa part number 17014, Retail's at $81.49. On my way over to TJ's house, the car started acting funny and actually seemed like it was running out of fuel on part throttle acceleration. Once we got the computer all hooked up and logged that issue, we found out the o2 sensor was stuck. It was reading 15.6 and wouldn't go up or down. So we gimped it back to his house and changed it out. after that everything was perfect! It was reading the correct AFR and we found out the entire night of "13.5" was actually 10.5 on my 15psi pulls. What a relief that was. So then we started leaning it out, and eventually adding some more boost to it. At the end of the night we ended up around 20-21 and it pulls hard. The turbo never runs out and pulls super hard from 5-7k. The turbo can be fully spooled before 4k! Its amazing. We got a chance to play with a few cars here and there, and it held its own with a 12.20 (est.) truck, and high 11's car. Very glad its all coming together so well. My big scare from the night came after running that 11's car.. I had banged the gears pretty hard, and it was difficult to get into 4th gear. It would go in, but you really had to force it. I honestly thought I had bent a shift fork or something else. But come to find out, my intake pipe on the turbo had came off, and wedged itself against my shift cables. It was preventing it from going into 4th gear. Man, talk about a change of emotion. From thinking your summer is over to right back to normal in a few minutes time. We bolted the intake pipe back on and it shifts perfect again. New prothane motor and transmission mounts are on the way, because mine are all shot and I'm sure that's not helping. This week we plan on pushing it up just a little higher to 25psi and seeing what kinda MPH that will net us at the track. Since I'm still on the stock bottom end I dont wanna push it too hard. I would love to see 120mph with mid 11's. I know the motor should be good for that, and TJ has the tune very conservative right now in both timing and AFR's so hopefully we don't have any issues. But in any gear right now 20-21 psi pulls hard and clean. No breakup and no issues.

Very nice to hear the issues have been resolved. I'm considering running the Evo Friday as well (1st time). But I have to work Saturday morning so I'm not sure. If I do, I look forward to seeing you there. I know you'll have me at the edge of my seat. -Edwin

One thing I had been putting off for a long time is my motor/tranny mounts. I'm not sure why I waited so long to do them, but I ordered a Prothane kit in black from summit racing. Here are the two side mounts, the timing belt side was 3/4 ripped out and the transmission mount seemed ok, but I think that was the one that came with my TRE trans. So it could have less miles on it then my stocker. Right now they are at my local tranny shop getting pressed out. I know the guys that run the place, and they offered to press them out. Once that is done I can put in the new mounts and install them. And then at one point I gotta get it on the lift and replace the front and rear. And I also bought a Symborski Shifter Kit. Once I get that in I'll be switching back to my stock shifter instead of my B&M short shifter.

Why are you switching back to the OE shifter?
I absolutely love my B&M. I couldn't imagine going back to a factory throw...

Why are you switching back to the OE shifter? I absolutely love my B&M. I couldn't imagine going back to a factory throw... What setting do you have it on Paul? that Lowest 50% notch or the 35% notch? I had it on the 50% notch and it seemed like I missed more shifts then I should. Now that is mostly driver mod, but some people (ie TJ.. lol) recommended I remove it because Its hard on transmissions. I love how nice and tight it felt with the B&M but dont want to damage my TRE transmission or miss shifts hurting other things. I did some research online and it did seem like many people were making that claim, so Its currently all disassembled until I put that bushing kit in.

Update on my motor mounts. Come to find out that shop couldnt press them out as hoped. I guess there press wasnt big enough or something. So I ran down to my Dads shop put them in the vise and went to work. I had read Dan and Pauls reviews on Tuners about how they got the old ones out. So I started with the really messed up mount. a few good hits with a hammer and that center was out. Then I cut into the steel ring around that and from there started to pry it back. When my Dad saw me doing this he suggested using his air Hammer to do that, and man did that work wonders. I thought It would just pry the metal ring back, it actually pushed it right out the end. Then after that I installed my new bushing and one was all done. Then I started in on the second one. Now this time since the air hammer worked so well, I decided to skip the cutting of the mount it self as well as the steel ring. I would use a hammer and punch to get the lip started, and air hammer the rest. This turned out to be a bad idea, and I spent a LONG time hammering on that thing until it finally started moving. But I did come out and I got that mount all installed. After that I had the simple, yet difficult task of getting them back on the car. I took a little bit, but I finally got them installed and everything bolted back in. I have yet to drive the car because I tore apart the inside of the car as well as the shifter assembly, but hopefully tomorrow or Friday I can get to see how much of a difference those mounts make. Friday is the first time I'm going to Martin to run this beast, Hopefully it will do well.

Looks good man. Should be a noticeable difference with those mounts. Better throttle response, engine response, and easy to shift at WOT. Good luck at the strip! Post up as soon as you get those times
