Alright I have been thinking about this lately. This is a dsm club as you can tell from the name. But we don't really act like a club. So I have been thinking of ways for more structure. One way is for a actual member system. Obviously the forum is still open to everyone but to have group of members actually part of the club I feel is important. For this I was thinking of setting a boundry because this is West Michigan Dsm So the entire west side of the state. I have made a county map and found all the counties that I would like to involve. For members I think it would nice to have stuff like this: Forum Name. Location. Email. Car (year, color, trans type, turbo or non.) Email address. (current that you actually check) Phone number. Maybe track times if you have them. A mod list. What is to be expected of the members. Should we have attendance requirements? I am not sure on this one because alot of people don't like to go to meets if their car is broken and well we drive dsms I know it was very disorganized last year and the Kzoo crew were deffinately the ones making all the attendance for the meets last year (you guys are awesome) But I would really like the support of everyone as we try to bring this club up to what it should be. I have been looking into and talking to a few people that I would like to have help with all of this. And I will be contacting a few more here soon. Anyway hit me up with your opinions and ideas as I am open to them all. Thanks alot guys.

Oh woops, sorry I got a litte carried away, I needed a good mod update list anywho!
However it would be a good idea to add in you real name and your DOB or at least age to the list.
My opinions on attendance requirements should be no. If your car is a project then obviously you can't bring it. If you have a friend going, then try to catch a ride if you can but if not, thats ok. At least try to make an effort to attend the meet. Some things you can't get around, work, etc, and if you tell us in advance or for the future, we can try to plan around it so we can be sure you can attend at the next meet. Just advise us of why you can't attend if you want.
It would also depend on where the meet is for some people. If its far away, they may not want to make the drive, or trust the car to go that distance. Completely understandabe. Make an effort is all I ask.
TJ, like I said before, I'd be more than willing to help do what I can w/ future meets, however I can't really do much about meets in the kzoo/GR area, as I don't know the area very well, thats why all you guys live up there. Any think close to me I can help. I.E. Planning the Memorial Day meet at Lane Automotive, in Watervliet. I know I will be working every other saturday, so I will be working around that.

Alright I like that. For the advance I was thinking about setting dates at the start of summer or close to it. As for locations I am thinking about getting a few people from all the areas to scope out places and give ideas so we can setup a good meet everytime.

my .02 in order to gather structure, first off u need a couple" leaders" to help u do this, u cant do this on your own and no one should expect you to, u should have someone u trust in the Kzoo area to be one of yoru leaders, somone besides u in this ares, somone in another area etc who will report back to you and so we can touch base all around the west side of MI.
NEXT. You CANT make a manditory attendance, if u do u will loose the support from people in the forum and cause them to move elsewhere do to the fact they will feel, if they cant make it they cant belong.
What we need to do is make monthly meets for "gathering" who cars if yoru DSM is broke if u got another rie BRING IT just try and show up to chill maybe meet at a bar/grill and eat or have a drink or something and shoot the shit.
Another things is we could also figure out is ANYONE intrested in autoX if so we could make meet dates at ceretian auto X events, or drag events (or even test and tune days) and we can all hammer the track but go as a "club"
I like the layout of the car/person request sheet mine is below for your taking. However I noticed form the begining this place seemed to be like any other I have looked at and I know how my team became a wash (besides me and another person who are LEGIT to it) and I would like to find a little nook to be a part of.
Best of luck u knwo u have my support and any help u need either with info, gatherings, merchandies u know im on it.
one other thing it is pricey but maybe if a few of the "leaders" pitch in, I can get a good deal on custom made t's and we can hand them out for either cost or hell for FREE to those members who show an effort and really want to join club WMDSM!
I think the stickers should be free or cheep (all procedes back to the forum of course) same with the shirts. I mean lets make the members feel important, because lets face it u would'nt have started this thread if u did'nt think so.
to all members "Become dedicated and get free stuff, get a group of guys who will help out when in need, lend a hand or a part to gt u on the road, and a little somwhere to call YOUR CAR CLUB"

Exactly the response's I like to see. As for leaders I am working on that. Matt, Steve, and probably AJ from kzoo (Largest concentration of members needs more people. And of course Brandon will still be involved). For farther south I was thinking Paul and Dan. For G.r. it would be Ben and I. Out by the beach it will be Justin. Farther north will Probably be Brent. This is just what I am looking at and I will be pming people soon to figure all of this out.

Few things: 1. Dan I like the idea that we need 2 people from your area/Grand Haven area to be club reps. I vote you and Paul in as the main contacts. You guys are the go to men for planning out meets in that area if you are interested in taking the position. That and Matt/TJ need to approve of this idea as well. 2. Kzoo already has reps: Matt and I. We were the original ones and have continued to be the decision makers for meets and stuff. The rest of kzoo crew is also very tight, we see each other AT LEAST once a week on our weekly Tuesday meet, which has also been a success since Matt and I introduced the concept last May. 3. Merchandise might work this summer, but we have had a cafepress site and stickers available for several months now and I don't know many people that sport them. I bought a t-shirt and I think I'm the only one 4. A member database would be good for the actual website to have when people click on the pictures of the member's cars. 5. I know us kzoo people say this a lot, but what makes a club is the bond between members that can only be established over time. I consider all the kzoo people some of my best friends because we have been there for each other through the thick and thin. I told TJ the other nite that the only value WMDSM adds to our subgroup is the forum and connections with people. And I meant it. And shit, anyone can go make a forum online, anyone can go get t-shirts printed/stickers made, anyone can set up meets. What needs to happen is people to actually show the f*** up. I know I speak for 99% of the kzoo people when I say this: the only GR person we have ever seen at our meets is Jesse basically, and we view that as a bunch of crap. And if anyone from GR says we dont make an effort to go up there, well they can say that to my face along with everyone else down here in kzoo and I hope they aren't on crack, b/c that is the biggest load of $hit ever. You guys want a car club and all that, you need to actually PARTICIPATE We know it works down here, hell the concept has added people over time. The original group of people down here over a year ago was me, Matt, Pinder, and Ash. You can now add to that list Moe, AJ, Steve, Randy, Angelo, Joe, Rhino, Josh, Harold, Brent, Garret, Garret's bro, some of Moe's friends, Mike, John, plus a few more that come occasionally, plus I'm sure I forgot a few (dont take offense, I'm just doing this off the top of my head). That's a little more than 20, 18 with the consistent people. We have grown 450% or 4.5x's our size since last Jan/Feb. And on that list aren't all DSM'rs, but that's not what matters. It boils down to: do you want to come hang out with people that share the same interests? do you want to plan for meets or plan around them? do you want to make an effort to come or be there because you WANT to be there? I'll let other's add their 2 cents, but I know we have discussed these topics redunantly. And 3 things remain the same: the kzoo people have our own culture and are only growing. the gr membership is pretty much non-existant. and the outside membership is growing like mad as well. I guess I'll wait and see what happens AFTER the first meet. Because everyone there will be like "oh yea, this is so cool, I'll be there next meet, I want to do this and that, blah blah blah blah" Talk'n the walk and walk'n the walk are 2 totally different things...

Brandon, I agree 2 people are needed in the lower MI area, I think I speak for both Paul and I that we would be more than willing to help out. I know a few other local guys that can give us some ideas on where to plan meets. Infact, I've already got a place or 2 in mind for local meets, including the 18th annual Lane Automotive Cruise Night and Car show, May 26th and 27. Last year nearly 900 cars showed up in conjunction for both days, and If we can get a serious group of people that will go, then Paul can try and reserve us a spot for one of the days, so we can all park together and hang out.

well I have not made a meet yet because this is new to me. HOWEVER I can say that here in GR car guys suck when it comes to individual meets, I dont know why but I hear it all over form other clubs that in Kzoo etc it is big here it blows..
I hope I can find my way into helping this build and get along, if not then I will just be a member I guess, either way I got plenty of ways to draw attention and get more flow (hopefully)
I guess only time will tell, but I do think that there needs to be more effort put out on GR's "leaders" in order to attrack more attention

Yes, Dan and I would gladly accept the responsibility for our area.
I think there are a few things that we lack as a club. Unity, being the #1.
I spoke with Tj yesterday regarding another club that I hang out with (Subsonic Kustomz). I'm not a member of the club, but I am on their forums and I do go to some of their meets. They're attitude and committment is exactly what I would like to see in WMDSM.
I feel we need to do more than just set-up meets that last a few hours. There is nothing wrong with the meets, but I just feel we need something more. For example: Subsonic Kustomz had a "meet" for a Christmas dinner. A member by the name of Chris Fink offered his house (in Stevensville) for the meet. A huge feast was prepared and everyone that showed up, donated $ toward the cost of the food. There was roughly 30 people that showed up - we ate food, drank beer, played cards, fucked with the first dudes that passed out, and had a great time. Everyone spent the night and went to breakfast the next morning. It was a good way to get to know each other. There was many people from the mid-indiana area and even a handful of guys from Detroit drove over this way. And they actually do this all the time. They travel to shows together as well as the weekly meets.
I would love for WM to be as closely "knitted" as their club is. I would be willing to put my house up for a meet/kegger this summer. I think our club would benifit from the bonding.
I want us to be closer than a couple meets and a forum board. Do you guys agree?? Disagree?

I would deff put my house up for a BBQ sometime, have some brew, play some games.
another thing would be nice is if we could do like a parts trader at these events, if u have something u want to get rid of bring them to a meet and let people basically rummage through it and take what they want etc.. I personally care less about selling my used stuff IF this is a "group" or my friends (club members)

Have to say, I agree with most of what Brandon said. I can understand people not wanting to make attendance mandatory, but I, along with alot of the others, are really busy and still make time for the weekly meets. While I don't necessarily think attendance should be mandatory, I think that the opinions and input of those who actually go all the time should have more weight than those that barely show.
I think trying to get back to having one big monthly meet somewhere semi-convenient for all is important. We used to do it, and were all pretty good at it, but that seems to have completely died off lately.
As far as restricting the club to DSM's....I honestly don't think thats the wisest thing. I know the name is WMDSM, but a ton of people, such as poor Garrett, has had to sell his due to accidents and what not - does that mean we kick them out? No, I think Brandon is right, a club like this should be open to anyone that has an interest in it. I've been a member since the club started way back at BWW's last year, but just bought mine in June. What about people that don't drive theirs half the time b/c it's broken? Do we just say, "sorry, you can't come back until it's fixed?"
I think more structure would be a great idea TJ, but in many ways, that may just be what it is, a great idea. Baby steps. Let's start having the once a month meets. Brandon and Matt are by far the reps from this area, no offense to Steve or AJ, but they are not there every week. TJ and Ben, I know are the main guys in GR. As far as the other areas, all the power to whomever wants to be responsible for the southern portion of West Michigan. One important asset that these two should possess though is responsibility. Just because your car is fast, that doesn't mean you are necessarily the best option. The one who is going to be accessible and own up to all the responsibilities of a leader should be it. I think having reps is a great idea, however, those reps really do need to talk to the members in their area and not just make executive decisions.
I like the idea of big dinners and stuff where everyone contributes, but, oh yeah, I've done that twice at my house and people did not necessarily want to pay the $5, so I end up with enough food for 20 people with only 10 of them actually paying and eating. I like the idea of doing a large gathering at a park or beach like was attempted last year, but I think ahead of time, the members should have been consulted as to what would be the better place and time for most. Then have sign-ups for food and what not as opposed to TJ scrambling at the last minute trying to convince people to bring hotdogs.

The once a month meets die durning the winter for obvious reasons.
The club is a dsm club and I will leave it to dsm only but that is not to say that we are excluding anyone. I have always been a fan of letting anyone come to the meets. A members list would be for those that have dsm and fall within the boundries of west michigan.
As for the weekly meets I would love to come down but I unfortunately have a full time job that gets in the way of my "fun". My schedule has now changed but I am adjusting and trying to find time as it is to get things done. But soon I should be able to kick back enjoy myself and maybe make a few of those meets.
I also agree on the structure thing being more than on paper. And a big group of friends is what I would like. Large dinners, track days, meets, and maybe days set aside to help each other with our cars should help us with that.
